Call Before You Dig!

Are you going to build a deck?  Put in a mailbox? Maybe you would like to start a garden.  Are you going to dig into the ground?

By law, everyone MUST contact the Ohio Utilities Protection Service, 8-1-1 or 1-800-362-2764, at least 48 hours but no more than 10 working days (excluding weekends and legal holidays) before beginning ANY digging project. Ohio Utilities Protection Service acts as a communication link between utility companies and individuals planning any digging activity.

You will need to provide the following information when you call:

  • Name
  • Address, including City and County
  • Phone number
  • What type of work is being done?
  • Where on your property the work is being done
  • Nearest cross street
  • Is the area marked with paint or flag?

Why are there flags in my yard and what do they mean?

The utility companies will mark the location of any underground utilities.  Different color flags mean different types of utility.
