The Civil Service Commission is responsible for advertising and posting classified positions. Most positions in the City are classified and therefore protected under Civil Service rules. The following are some positions that are classified: Clerks, Secretaries, Water/Street Maintenance, Police Officers, Dispatchers, Court Liaison Officers, Code Compliance Officers, Building Inspectors, among others.
Unclassified positions are exempt from examinations and consists of elected officials (Mayor, City Attorney, City Auditor and City Council) and their staff (secretaries/clerks/assistants and department directors).
