The Senior Citizens of Reynoldsburg (SCOR) was founded in 1971 with a group of 25 people. By the time they had a permanent home at 1520 Davidson Drive in August 1988, they numbered 400. Now the membership is 1800 active members. SCOR may change officers and members, but its intent has not changed…..to provide educational activities and maintain a comfortable place to socialize, make new friends and create memories.
There are exercise classes every day available for members. We offer classes for Ballroom dancing, Line dancing, yoga, tai chi, Silver Sneakers, arthritis exercise, tone & stretch as well as Zumba Gold. Our current art classes are stained glass, watercolor, wire wrap, and fused glass. As for craft classes you may choose to participte in beading, cardmaking, crochet, woodcarving, or quilting. We have card games; tripoley, euchre, pinochle, bridge, canasta and Texas Hold 'em are regularly scheduled. Other activities you might find of interest include, chorus, cornhole, current events, darts, horseshoes, ice cream socials, pickle ball, ping pong, pool, mahjongg and a Summer Community Concert Series. Through out the year we offer potlucks with entertainment. Additionally, we schedule speakers each month to address a variety of topics pertinent to older adults. We have regular blood pressure checks and yearly flu shoots, as well as tax preparation. SCOR has an extensive travel program and features day trips around Columbus and Ohio. Several times a year there are extended trips outside the state or outside the country.
The Senior Center staff, the Parks and Recreation Department, the SCOR Board Members and the individual efforts of all the members have created a wonderful place for the Senior Citizens of Reynoldsburg to call “A home away from home”.
You must be 55 years young to join and the cost is $15 per year for Reynoldsburg residents and $20 per year for all others. Continued growth has created an exciting environment with wonderful activities and tremendous participation.
