Lead Safe Franklin County Housing Program
serving areas of Franklin County outside of the city limits of Columbus.

(233-4172 for more information)

  • This program is part of a national effort funded by the HUD Office of Lead Hazard Control.
  • The grant was awarded to the Franklin County Board of Commissioners who subcontract with MORPC to administer the program and partner with the Franklin County Board of Health as a service provider.
  • This multi-year program started on July 1, 1999. An official kick-off event will be held in August but the program is taking clients now.
  • The Lead Safe Franklin County Housing Program is targeted to families with low to moderate incomes living in homes that were built before 1950 an contain lead painted surfaces.
  • The goal of the program is to find and treat 190 housing units for lead paint hazards over the next 3 years. MORPC's lead treatment program is associated with its housing rehabilitation program. In addition to treating lead hazards at no cost, MORPC may be able to provide low interest loans to correct other structural problems with a dwelling.

The Lead Safe Franklin County Housing Program will serve all of Franklin County outside the city limits of Columbus but will place emphasis on the following target area:

  • Blacklick Estates
  • Canal Winchester
  • Darbydale
  • Georgesville
  • Grandview
  • Grove City
  • Groveport
  • Harrisburg
  • Old Hilliard
  • Lockbourne
  • New Rome

  • Pleasant Township

People can get lead in their body if they:
  1. Put their hands or other objects covered with lead dust in their mouths.
  2. Eat paint chips or soil that contains lead.
  3. Breathe in lead dust (especially during renovations that disturb painted surfaces).

One(1) out of every eleven(11) children in the United States has dangerous levels of lead in the bloodstream.
